15 October 1997. The daylong event beginning with a brief introduction by Martin Munroe, Coordinator of Theatre Shop 97. Immediately afterward three working groups began. The purpose of these working groups was to impart practical information on touring to the attendees at the Theatre Shop |

| The second working group "Edinburgh Fringe Festival: A Platform to the World Stage", began after a short break. Gerry Barnes, Executive Director of the Cork Opera House chaired this session. The panel members were Liz Smith from the Stella Artois Assembly Rooms in Edinburgh, Stephen Boyd from Corcadorca Theatre Company, and Garrett Keogh from Sugarloaf Theatre Company. | "European Touring", the third working group was chaired by Doireann N’ Bhriain, a member of the Cultural Relations Committee of the Department of Foreign Affairs. The panel members were Torsten Mass the Director of the Berliner Festspiele and Ferlith Lean from the Stadsteater in Stockholm Sweden. After lunch, the one-on-one meetings began. There were eight sessions of ten minute meetings given by thirty-three presenters; for a total of 280 individual ten minute meetings in a two hour period. |
| These
meetings were divided into two areas of focus: 1) International Touring, and 2) North/South Touring in Ireland. The purpose of the International Desk was to introduce Irish theatre company managers to decision makers from abroad. The North/South desk aimed to introduce Northern theatre company managers to Southern decision makers and Southern theatre company managers to Northern decision makers. We have always felt that the one-on-one meetings are the most productive elements of the Theatre Shop. The addition of the North/South desk truly enhanced the afternoon. |
Theatre Shop 97 ended with the Closing Session convened by Siobhan Bourke, Executive Producer of Rough Magic Theatre Company. The speakers at this session were Joe Dowling; Sinead MacAodh from An Chomhairle Ealaion; David Grant from the Lyric, Belfast and Catherine Boothman, the International Officer at An Chomhairle Ealaion. |
