| The Heather Breeze Ceili Band was formed some years ago as
a result of the revival of Set Dancing in Ireland. Local Set Dancers in
our home town of Westport in Co.Mayo wanted music to dance
to, hence the formation of the Heather Breeze Band. Follow this link to the band's website: www.heatherbreezeband.com The present band is made of Button Accordion Fiddle, Banjo, Piano and drums. Pat Friel is the Accordion player and also the band leader from Westport. Co.Mayo and is a founder member as is Liam Grealish who plays Fiddle, also from Westport. Pat and Liam have been playing Trad. Music together for longer than they would like to admit. They can be caught up with in Matt Molloys Trad. Pub in Westport on thursday nights playing informal sessions. Padraig Morell plays Banjo and is the latest addition to the Band. Padraic comes from Ballina Co Mayo . MariiaMcHugh/lynn comes from Foxford Co Mayo and plays piano Sean Bourke plays Drums and comes from Castlebar Co Mayo The Band has just released their first Set Dance Album which coantains 6 sets plus Pride of Erin Waltz and the Sweetheart Waltz. The Sets Are as follows: The Connnemara /Dearrada /Newport/ Ballycstle (Mayo) The Williamstown And the Cashel. The Cd was released to coincide with the bands first visit to North America which was to the Nevele Grande Complex in the Catskill Mountains for Gertrude Byrnes Annual Irish Weekend. Next year the band have tours planned for England in March and Ibiza for a week of set dancing in April. Mostly though you can find the Band playing for Ceilis around Mayo and Galway in the West of Ireland. |
